DJ Hero Puts Daft Punk into the Mix

DJ Heor Mix

Due for release just in time for Halloween parties, Activision’s DJ Hero takes the interactive music experience firmly into clubland with over 100 individual songs and 93 unique never-before-released mixes that blend different genres of music of music ‘Mash Up’ style. DJ Hero offers a diverse and international collection of music incorporating anthems from legendary artists and famous name DJ’s and producers like Grand Master Flash and DJ Shadow. The new DJ Hero turntable offers complete control over various DJ techniques including scratching, crossfading and sampling. The game bundle itself is available in two variations; the standard version of comes with a plastic controller and a copy of the game. The DJ Hero Renegade version comes not only with the game itself, but a package that I’m sure will encourage prospective owners to pay that little extra: –

Controller: The Renegade version of the DJ Hero Controller has a metal construction with a black finish. It’s more solid and the extra weight adds to the ‘decks’ realistic feel.

DJ Hero Carrying Case: Designed to keep your deck in perfect condition, the durable carrying case has a dual function as it can be transformed into a DJ Stand for the deck itself.

Exclusive Eminem & Jay-Z CD Content: Eminem and Jay-Z have added to the Renegade bundle with an exclusive double CD that includes not only a selection of their songs, but also a number of previously unreleased tracks from both artists!

Daft Punk Add Their Unique Sound

To further add to the build up, Activision has just announced a unique collaboration by partnering the game with Daft Punk, the French Electro pop duo, world renowned for their unique sound as both producers and DJ’s. Included in the set-list will be two signature Daft Punk Megamixes and the following Mash Up style tracks: –

Daft Punk “Around the World” vs. Young MC “Bust A Move”

Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. NASA “Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip”

Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. Queen “Another One Bites the Dust”

Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Hashim “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” – Produced by The Scratch Perverts

Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Queen “We Will Rock You”

Daft Punk “Short Circuit” vs. Boogie Down Productions “Jack Of Spades”

Daft Punk “Technologic” vs. Gary Numan “Cars”

Daft Punk “Television Rules the Nation” vs. No Doubt “Hella Good”

“Partnering with Daft Punk is a rare opportunity in any medium and we are extremely honoured to have worked with them so closely on integrating into DJ Hero in such a compelling way,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero®. “This is the first time in a video game that fans will have this kind of direct interaction with Daft Punk while also experiencing never-before-released mixes that feature some of their most popular tracks. It’s amazing working with Daft Punk as they are the quintessential electronic music act known around the world for their unique style and music.”

Battle of the Controllers

With this title hitting the shelves at least 2 months before Scratch DJ, it gives enthusiasts like myself a hard choice over which of the two DJ titles to get. Knowing my impulsive nature and love of anything music related, I can see both games and controllers ending up in my collection. At the end of the day, as with real DJ battles there will be only one winner. Who takes the crown as DJ game of 2010 is anyone’s guess, but be rest assured that here at Phonica we will have a ‘Battle of the DJ’s’ and give you honest feedback on the two titles. There’s even talk of a Phonica event in Birmingham or London where a group of professional DJ’s will get a chance to play to a real crowd just using the two games. Keep an eye out in the magazine for further updates and full reviews of both titles as soon as we get our hands on them…
